Today marks the 40th birthday of fashion icon Kate Moss. What a remarkable female, have a jolly one love! x

Last week I shot with the beautiful Shonagh Smith, working on B&W 120mm film using the Mamiya RB67. Apologies for the shan watermark, new to this blogging malark and don’t really want my work being stolen.

The more and more I use film, the less and less I want to go back to digital. Beautiful results.

(apart from the watermark obviously, this is completely unedited, as you can see all scratches and gain from the film are still all there, may have to remove that rather unfortunately placed scratch on her forehead when I get round to making my website public though)

Over the past few years I’ve constantly been asked who inspires me in the photography world. Being a huge fan of black and white film, I can’t say that there’s many modern day photographers who take my interest if I’m completely honest. However, it’s the works of the likes of Richard Avedon, Irving Penn and Helmut Newton that really catch my eye, they’ve played a big part in my own personal work and I think for as long as I live, I’ll be able to look through their work and feel just as inspired by their imagery as I was the first time I looked through their bodies of work. Rankin is possibly the only photographer around today that I strive to be like, personally think the man’s in a complete league of his own. Hats off to the four of you, and thanks for the inspiration.

Got to admire the works of Mr Helmut Newton like, helped put fashion and beauty photography on the map, and for that, I salute you fine sir.

Just spent the past few hours coming up with a logo for what will be my photography business once I’m all ready to go. The logo consists of my initial branded bang in the center, surrounded by a camera shutter (pretty obvious why) finished off with the male logo because I am in fact male… and I’m a man who has a thing for patterns, so I felt the need to include some sort of pattern in there. All patterns are from objects I own, e.g. my blanket, sofa etc. There’s one thing out the way, more work to be done!

Right, so I came across this bloke a few month ago, he was one of those musicians that I’d never heard of but was so glad to have come across this piece. Every time I watch it I’m still sat with amazement at what the guy can do with a guitar, but along with the amazement of watching this performance, a shadow of confusion hangs over me as I sit and think “How can a band like One Direction make 20 million pounds EACH in their FIRST year of performing yet this blokes totally under the radar!?”. Where’s the justice in that please? From what I’ve read about him, he’s been performing for over 20 years and I can guarantee you that he’s never seen a million pounds in his life time. However, he’s true to himself and is clearly passionate about his work, to be fair to him he’ll be carrying more talent in his right thumb than the majority of artists we see in the charts today. In conclusion to this slight little rant, I say the world needs more John Butlers, and less One Directions.

Another little piece we done last year for Communion Sessions with Amy Holford.

Might as well start off the new blog with a few pieces of old work. This is a piece we filmed last year for good friends and up and coming North East band Let’s Buy Happiness. The video itself has since featured on MTV… which I had only gone and missed and didn’t end up even finding out until a few month after it had actually been aired! Great bunch, fantastic characters, with a library of beautiful music, if you haven’t heard of them, have a little listen to their stuff….   http://letsbuyhappiness.com/
